Chevy Chase, Maryland, is near the northwest border of Washington, DC. It’s a residential suburban area that’s a fascinating blend of sleepy streets and neighborhoods with urban-style vibes in its downtown area. It’s a popular shopping district and home to large community parks. It also boasts some of the most beautiful early 20th-century architecture.

It’s a walkable community that’s pet-friendly and full of parks and trails to explore.

There’s a busy lifestyle to be had here, with many commuters calling it home. Still, it maintains a small-town feel where waving to the neighbors is quite common.

DINING, ENTERTAINMENT & SHOPPING:
The downtown area of Chevy Chase is a commercial district with ample shopping, dining, and entertainment options. It starts with good food, including at neighborhood joints like Lia’s, featuring house-made pasta and old-world recipes. Clyde’s is a friendly destination with American cuisine and fabulous cocktails. Try the cocktails and pizzas at Little Beast Café and Bistro for a fun, upbeat location. The desserts are quite notable, too. Hunter’s Hound offers seasonal meals made from fresh ingredients and innovative methods. For upscale dining, the French option La Ferme Restaurant provides the very best in elegant cuisine all within a country-farmhouse-style space – the covered porch seating on a warm summer night is ideal. The Capital Grille is also located in the city and is exceptional for fine dining.

Numerous grocers exist nearby for those hoping to prepare a meal or two at home, but two stand out. Brookeville Market is the perfect location for just about anything. Magruder’s is a grocery store with a fabulous deli and all of the beer and wine needed. Whole Foods and Rodman’s Grocery and Pharmacy are also available.

THINGS TO DO:
There’s much to experience in Chevy Chase. There’s the Avalon Theater, a historic, nonprofit cinema perfect for an evening out. Many people enjoy spending time at one of the area’s country clubs. Chevy Chase Country Club is an institution that’s been in place since 1892. Columbia Country Club is younger, opening in 1911, but still offers incredible golf and luxurious amenities.

There’s also Norwood Local Park, with a playground and lots of open green space. The Chevy Chase Recreation Center is also prominent here, offering numerous programs for people of most ages. Spending the days at the Saturday farmer’s market on Brookeville Rd. is a good start to the weekend. Also notable is that the Friendship Heights Metro is nearby, providing easy access to the city.
